R.O.P.E.S. Summer Institute

Students will participate in the R.O.P.E.S. Summer Institute (RSI), which is an in-person, two-week institute that combines career exploration and social opportunities to build community, and connect with Rowan faculty and peer mentors/tutors in their chosen field of study. The first week will focus on exposure to college life along with team-building. On the first day of programming, students will experience college life via interactions with faculty, staff, and Rowan students. They will become familiar with the college environment by learning about the activities offered and Rowan’s rich array of resources, including Admissions, Residence Life, Financial Aid, Student Services, Campbell Library, Academic Computing Center, Learning Lab, and Career Development Center. At the end of the day, students will interact with a panel consisting of Rowan faculty and students along with professional role models, and participate in an orientation session.

At the RSI, students will participate in a career fair and rotate through various workshops. After engaging with professionals, students, and faculty, R.O.P.E.S. students will complete a survey to rank their fields of interest. Results will be used to group students in their interested field of study, which will be the focus of their remaining time at RSI and academic discipline coursework in the fall semester. During days three to nine, students will participate in experiential learning opportunities to explore careers in their selected areas and work on a project with Rowan students and faculty. On day ten, student projects will be featured in a showcase presentation highlighting:

  • Who am I? (Intro to Career Pathways),
  • Where I am going? (Discipline-specific course), and
  • How will I get there (academic coursework and RSI)

allowing them to share highlights of their experiences at RSI. Teachers from partner schools will be invited and a workshop for parents/guardians will also be held to inform them of the admissions process, financial aid applications, and student support services available at Rowan University. The day will end with a closing ceremony during which students will be awarded certificates of Summer Institute completion.
