Institutional Biosafety Committee
An Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) serves an important role for an institution to ensure biological material used in research is conducted safely, adheres to regulatory guidelines and required for institutions conducting research using recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules. Since the United States government made it a requirement for institutions to form an IBC to provide oversight and review over rsDNA research, IBCs have expanded to review and oversee research, training and education using biological materials.
