Rowan University’s workforce development programs prepare students and working professionals with credentials, certificates and degrees designed to meet industry demands.
Industry partnerships
Rowan University’s partnerships with major employers such as Lockheed Martin align academic programs with real-world needs. In addition to tuition reimbursement for its employees, the company offers cooperative education experiences to Rowan students in computer science and electrical engineering. As a result, Rowan University is one of the top institutions in the United States for new hires at Lockheed Martin.
New pathways
With stackable certificates, dual-credit programs and innovative affiliations with trade unions, community colleges and employers, Rowan makes it easier and more affordable to obtain a degree.
- Construction management: Developed for apprentices, journeypersons and experienced construction professionals, the construction management program builds new skills in construction cost estimating, project scheduling, construction contract law and leadership development. Learn more
- Clean energy: With support from TD Bank, Rowan University and its partners, Gloucester County Institute of Technology and Rowan College of South Jersey, have established the Green Jobs Academy, a collaborative accelerator program to prepare students and workers for in-demand jobs in the renewable energy and other green economy sectors.
- Health care: As one of only two public universities in the country offering both the M.D. and D.O. degree programs, Rowan is a medical education powerhouse. The Virtua Health College of Medicine & Life Sciences at Rowan University offers degree programs in medicine, nursing, allied health care, biomedical engineering and sciences. The Office of Pre-Health Programs provides individualized support to undergraduates pursuing any health care profession.
- Business and entrepreneurship: The Rowan Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship supports student entrepreneurs through networking opportunities, large-scale competitions, accelerator programs and multiple seed-funding initiatives.
- Cybersecurity: Growing threats have increased demand for employees with the knowledge and skills needed to protect information systems. In addition to our degree programs. Students can earn certificates of undergraduate and graduate studies to gain credentials in key areas, including cybersecurity architecture, network security and cyber defense.
- Cannabis studies: Rowan offers certificates in cannabinoid chemistry to train students in fundamental sciences for the analysis of marijuana, cannabinoids and related materials to supplement careers in health professions, food science, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. Students interested in the economic and policy impacts of the cannabis industry can pursue certificates to learn more about the industry’s growth, legislation and commercialization.
Student recruitment
Rowan is a proud member of the New Jersey Council of County Colleges Pathways and Skills Collaboratives, which offers support across the learning lifespan to students and workers in several high-demand industry sectors. Through this partnership, Rowan actively recruits students from underrepresented and low-income communities in southern New Jersey, focusing on retaining first-generation or Pell Grant-eligible students. Through Rowan’s Autism PATH (Preparation and Achievement in the Transition to Hire) program, neurodivergent students gain internship opportunities with the potential for full-time employment.
